30/6 In-Person Course Package
This course package consists of 30 hours of in-person classroom instruction which includes the Alcohol & Drug Awareness Program (ADAP) and 6 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction. The 30-hour class meets the requirements for Joshua’s Law and qualifies for the Teen Driver’s Education insurance discount. (Georgia Code O.C.G.A. 33-9-42). The 30-hour class and 6-hour behind-the-wheel instruction are conducted at separate times. Once the student completes the 30-hour class, he/she is added to a queue to await assignment to a behind-the-wheel instructor. Once assigned, the instructor contacts the parent directly to schedule the three 2-hour behind-the-wheel sessions.
The 30-hour class is intended to teach students fundamental theories and practices associated with driving a motor vehicle including, but not limited to, the rules and regulations of the road, safe driving practices, proper attitudes, pedestrian safety and driver responsibility, defensive driving, car care/maintenance and car handling procedures.
This class is offered at various locations in Cobb County.
The 6-hour Behind-the-Wheel (BTW) instruction is one-on-one instruction that occurs on the road in an a Driver's Ed DDS-approved vehicle. This instruction is intended for students who possess positive and responsible behaviors, the ability to follow directions, a strong awareness of their surroundings, intact sensory acuity and have had some experience driving a vehicle. As safety and competence dictates, BTW instruction includes Range Work, Residential Driving and Expressway Driving. (If student's instructor determines student is lacking proficiency behind-the-wheel, not all components may be covered to ensure safety to student, instructor and other drivers on road ways. Extra driving sessions are available for purchase as needed.) All Driver’s Education cars are fully insured and equipped with an instructor side brake, extra mirrors and meet the requirements of the GA Department of Driver Services.
BTW instruction consists of three 2-hour sessions that are scheduled at the discretion of the student's assigned instructor based on instructor's and student's availability. The BTW instruction is currently conducted from our main car lot at Marietta Sixth Grade Academy located at 340 Aviation Rd, Marietta, 30064.
Upon successful completion of the classroom and driving portions of the course, the student will receive a full certificate of completion and an Alcohol/Drug Awareness Program Certificate (ADAP). Completion certificates will be sent to the parent/guardian via email.
