30/6 Virtual Course Driving Package
This course package consists of 30 hours of virtual classroom instruction which includes the Alcohol & Drug Awareness Program (ADAP) and 6 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction. The 30-hour class meets the requirements for Joshua’s Law and qualifies for the Teen Driver’s Education insurance discount. (Georgia Code O.C.G.A. 33-9-42). The 30-hour class and 6-hour behind-the-wheel instruction are conducted at separate times. Once the student completes the 30-hour class, he/she is added to a queue to await assignment to a behind-the-wheel instructor. Once assigned, the instructor contacts the parent directly to schedule the three 2-hour behind-the-wheel sessions.
The 30-hour virtual class is intended to teach students fundamental theories and practices associated with driving a motor vehicle including, but not limited to, the rules and regulations of the road, safe driving practices, proper attitudes, pedestrian safety and driver responsibility, defensive driving, car care/maintenance and car handling procedures. The virtual class is taught via a Zoom classroom and while the majority of this course is conducted in the virtual classroom, the student will still need to visit our main office on the first and last day of the class to pick up and return course materials. Also, the student is expected to be present and available at all times during the scheduled days and hours. The virtual course is paced and structured within the predetermined dates and times.
The 6-hour Behind-the-Wheel (BTW) instruction is one-on-one instruction that occurs on the road in an a Driver's Ed DDS-approved vehicle. This instruction is intended for students who possess positive and responsible behaviors, the ability to follow directions, a strong awareness of their surroundings, intact sensory acuity and have had some experience driving a vehicle. As safety and competence dictates, BTW instruction includes Range Work, Residential Driving and Expressway Driving. (If student's instructor determines student is lacking proficiency behind-the-wheel, not all components may be covered to ensure safety to student, instructor and other drivers on road ways. Extra driving sessions are available for purchase as needed.) All Driver’s Education cars are fully insured and equipped with an instructor side brake, extra mirrors and meet the requirements of the GA Department of Driver Services.
BTW instruction consists of three 2-hour sessions that are scheduled at the discretion of the student's assigned instructor based on instructor's and student's availability. The BTW instruction is currently conducted from our main car lot at Marietta Sixth Grade Academy located at 340 Aviation Rd, Marietta, 30064.
