N. Atlanta High School
North Atlanta High School is located at 4111 Northside Pkwy NW, Atlanta, 30327.
This course consists of 30 hours of classroom instruction and 6 hours of behind the wheel instruction and meets the requirements for Joshua’s Law and qualifies for the Teen Driver’s Education insurance discount. (Georgia Code O.C.G.A. 33-9-42). The 30-hour classroom instruction and 6-hour behind-the-wheel instruction are conducted at separate times. Once the student completes the 30-hour classroom instruction, their name is added to a queue to await assignment to a behind-the-wheel instructor. During times of high enrollment student wait time to be assigned can take up to 8 weeks after student completes the 30-hour class.
The 30-hour classroom portion is intended to teach students fundamental theories and practices associated with driving a motor vehicle including, but not limited to, defense driving, car car/maintenance and car handling procedures. Students should have strong attention and test taking skills, as well as display positive behavior.
The 6- hour Behind-the-Wheel (BTW) instruction is one-on-one instruction that occurs on the road in an MCDE DDS-approved vehicle.This instruction is intended for students who have strong attention, intact sensory acuity and some experience driving a vehicle. As safety and competence dictates, BTW instruction includes Range Work, Residential Driving and Expressway Driving. (If student's instructor determines student is lacking proficiency behind-the-wheel, not all components may be covered to ensure safety to student, instructor and other drivers on road ways. Extra driving sessions are available for purchase as needed.) All Driver’s Education cars are equipped with an instructor side brake, extra mirrors and meet the requirements of the GA Department of Driver Services.
BTW instruction consists of three 2-hour sessions that are scheduled at the discretion of the student's assigned instructor based on instructor's and student's availability. BTW instruction is conducted from North Atlanta High School.
Upon successful completion of classroom and driving portions of the course, the student will receive a full certificate of completion and an Alcohol/Drug Awareness Program Certificate (ADAP). Completion certificates will be sent to the parent/guardian via email.
